13-Day Kenya and Tanzania Classical Trip

Day 1: Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve

Your adventure begins as you depart from Nairobi very early in the morning and head north to the enchanting Samburu National Reserve. The rugged landscape, striking acacia trees, and Ewaso Ng’iro River create a stunning backdrop for game drives. Keep your eyes peeled for the unique wildlife that call this region home, including Grevy’s zebras, reticulated giraffes, and the elusive leopard. The day is filled with thrilling wildlife encounters, and you’ll retire to your comfortable accommodation within the reserve, surrounded by the sounds of the African night.

Day 2: Full Day in Samburu National Reserve

Your second day in Samburu promises even more wildlife encounters. The reserve is home to a variety of species, such as elephants, lions, and crocodiles. Take a break during the heat of the day by the river, where you might spot a leopard or two. In the afternoon, your safari continues as you seek out the “Samburu Special Five” – the Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, and Grevy’s zebra. As the sun sets, you’ll return to your lodge, sharing stories of the day’s remarkable sightings.park.

Day 3: Samburu to Aberdare National Park

After an early morning breakfast at Sarova Samburu you will check out and depart for Aberdare. The vista that unfolds at your final destination, Aberdare National Park, is enough to stun the senses: the majestic park soars to 4,300 metres (14,000 feet) above sea level, skimming mountaintops and diving into

v-shaped valleys, swooping under waterfalls, and soaring over moorland, rainforests and bamboo forests. Aberdare is your first chance to spot Africa’s famed “Big Five” – the African elephant, Cape buffalo, leopard, lion, and black rhinoceros – all in one place.

Day 4: Aberdare to Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast you will check out and depart for Nakuru. Your first glimpse of Lake Nakuru is almost unbelievable, as a sparkling, blue lake materializes before your eyes, its shoreline an explosion of cherry blossom pink. These rosy hues are owed not to flowers, but to flamingos. Millions of these blush-coloured fowl line the coastline.

An afternoon game drive introduces you to flamingos. More than 400 bird species reside in Lake Nakuru National Reserve, which shares its lands with endangered Rothschild’s giraffes, black rhinos, white rhinos, lions, buffalos and baboons, among other incredible animals.

Day 5: Lake Nakuru to Maasai Mara National Reserve

After early morning breakfast, you will check out and leave Lake Nakuru for Maasai Mara. You will pass through Narok Town, a famous Maasai town as you make your way to Maasai Mara. You will arrive in time to check in at Serena Mara Game Camp and have lunch. After lunch, you will take off game drive through the park in search of lion, cheetah, elephant, buffalo, and other members of the “Big Five”, plus other animals. Later in the evening, you will return to camp for dinner and your overnight stay. The Maasai Mara is regarded as the jewel of Kenya’s wildlife viewing areas. The annual wildebeest migration alone involves over 1.5 million animals arriving in July and departing in November.

There have been some 95 species of mammals, amphibians, and reptiles and over 400 birds species recorded on the reserve.
Nowhere in Africa is wildlife more abundant, and it is for this reason a visitor hardly misses to see the big five (buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, and rhino).

Day 6: Explore Mara, Full Day Game Drive

Full-day game drives depart at 7.00 am, with your 4×4 fully equipped to cross the Mara plains in search of game. At 1800 meters above sea level it can get cold before the sun rises fully, so we provide blankets and hot water bottles to keep you warm.

By midday, it can become very hot indeed and sun-block lotion and hats are advised. Lunch is served under the shade of an Acacia tree or overlooking the snorting hippos which wallow in the Mara River.

As the afternoon draws to a close and the temperature cools, the shadows lengthen and the Bush changes once more. Evening sightings of rhinos are not uncommon on the way back to camp. Even a bad day is a good day in the Mara since undoubtedly you will have encountered vistas, flora, and fauna new to you.

Day 7: Maasai Mara to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, depart for the Kenya/Tanzania border at Isabenia, exit formalities before our Tanzania driver/guide takes over. This will take up to 8 hours of driving through rough roads. Serengeti National Park is easily Tanzania’s most famous national park, and it’s also the largest, at 14,763 square kilometers of protected area that borders Kenya’s Maasai Mara Game Park. Its far-reaching plains of endless grass, tinged with the twisted shadows of acacia trees, have made it the quintessential image of a wild and untarnished Africa. Its large stone kopjes are home to rich ecosystems and the sheer magnitude and scale of life that the plains support is staggering. Enjoy your en-route game drive at Serengeti National Park.

Day 8: Explore Serengeti National Park

These full-day safaris are the best way to see the full range of what this magnificent park has to offer. Each excursion departs at around 6.30 am, with your 4×4 fully equipped to cross the Serengeti in search of a game. The early mornings are relatively cool, but by midday, it can become very hot indeed and sun-block lotion and hats are advised. Lunch is served under the shade of an Acacia tree as you take a break from scanning the horizons

One of nature’s great occasions is the annual crossing of the Mara river by migrating wildebeest. You can be sure of witnessing this stupendous natural event. Yet it is often in the lesser-known corners of the bush that we spot the highlights of your visit, such as a kill, amorous liaison, or lesser -known creature. A full day on safari gives you every chance of such unforgettable encounters.

Day 9: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater

Depart after your morning breakfast with your picnic lunch boxes via the Olduvai gorge where it is believed the cradle of mankind began. Thereafter transferred to Ngorongoro Crater which is often called ‘Africa’s Eden’ and the ‘8th Natural Wonder of the World, a visit to the crater is the main drawcard for tourists coming to Tanzania and a definite world-class attraction. Within the crater rim, large herds of zebra and wildebeest graze nearby while sleeping lions laze in the sun. At dawn, the endangered black rhino returns to the thick cover of the crater forests after grazing on dew-laden grass in the morning mist. Just outside the crater’s ridge, tall Maasai herds their cattle and goats over green pastures through the highland slopes, living alongside the wildlife as they have for centuries.

Day 10: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

You’ll depart after breakfast to Arusha. Arusha is a city in East Africa’s Tanzania, located at the base of volcanic Mt. Meru. It’s a gateway to safari destinations and to Africa’s highest peak, 5,895m Mt. Kilimanjaro, lying some 100 kilometers northeast. To the west lies Serengeti National Park, home to wildlife including lions, rhinoceros, giraffes, and leopards. The annual migration features huge herds of wildebeests crossing its plains.

Day 11: Arusha to Amboseli National Park

Depart after breakfast to Amboseli. Amboseli National Park is famous for its big game— elephants, lions, and cheetahs are the main attractions —and for its great scenery beauty. The swamps are good places to catch the elephant as they bathe in the mud. There is a wealth and diversity of bird species to see as well. Ensure your camera has a liberal memory card since Africa has a few better blends of untamed life and landscape. The Royal Court of Kilimanjaro is best known for its views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and its expansive crowds of free-wandering elephants. You can also visit a Maasai Manyatta Village where you can take in more about Africa’s most renowned tribal society. Later in the day, you will return to camp for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 12: Amboseli to Nairobi

You will take part in an early pre-breakfast game drive in search of predators and grazers during sunrise hours. You will then return to camp for breakfast. Later, enjoy an extra mid- morning game drive before lunch. After lunch, you will drive back to Nairobi, arriving late in the afternoon where you will be dropped off at the Nairobi hotel.

Day 13: Nairobi Hotel to Airport

You will have breakfast at your hotel. Depending on your flight departure time you may have some free time to relax. You will also have made arrangements with the driver what time is best to pick you up for drop off at the airport for your flight. You will be dropped off at the airport, marking the end of our services.
