10-Day Tanzania Epic Wild Adventure

Day 1: Kilimanjaro International Airport to Arusha

A representative of Epic Wild Tours will pick you up from the Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and take you to Arusha. Arusha is a great place, easy to get around in and about as laid back as an African city can be. Enjoy a good piece of cake and a decent cup of tea or coffee in one of the town’s cafes. You will be taken to your hotel where you will be put up for the night.

Day 2: Arusha to North Serengeti National Park

After breakfast you will make your way to Serengeti National Park. Along your journey you will have plenty to see on the way including grazing zebra, antelope, giraffe and sometimes buffalo hiding in the bush. The North Serengeti ecosystem belongs partly to the Serengeti National park and partly to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Depending on the time of year and the migration of the herds you can expect to see wildebeest, lion, elephant, giraffe, zebra, monkey, baboon, hippo, rhino, antelope and many birds. Upon arrival at the Serengeti National Park you will drive to your lodge where you will have dinner and check-in for the night.

Day 3: North Serengeti National Park

You will get an early start today with a sunrise game drive to see nocturnal predators returning from the hunt and other animals waking up in the early morning light. You will take breakfast boxes with you and have a bush breakfast when the sun is up before you visit the interesting documentation center about Serengeti at Seronera. After this exciting game drive you will return to the lodge for a relaxed lunch under the shade of an old acacia tree. In the afternoon you can go out again on a game drive or undertake a nature walk around the camp with some resident tribesmen who will share their knowledge of plants and animals surrounding them and show you the use of a traditional bow and arrow for hunting. Later in the day you will return to camp for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 4: North Serengeti to Central Serengeti

After breakfast, you’ll travel to central Serengeti with a picnic lunch and enjoy game drives along the way. In the afternoon, you’ll continue with a game drive in the Serengeti Central region. Later, you’ll head to the camp for evening relaxation and an overnight stay.

Tanzania’s Serengeti, the country’s oldest and most renowned national park, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and was recently named one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa. It is famous for the annual migration, where about six million animals traverse the vast plains. The Serengeti offers an unparalleled game viewing experience, allowing you to see animals up-close that you may have only seen on National Geographic. Expect to witness impressive herds of buffalos, smaller groups of elephants and giraffes, and thousands of other wildlife such as the eland, topi, kongoni, impala, and Grant’s gazelle.

Day 5: Central Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, you will set out for the game drives. Serengeti National Park’s Wagakuria area boasts exceptionally high resident wildlife numbers, including a lion pride that can number up to 30. From August to October, this region transforms into a wildlife paradise. The Mara River is a key feature here, and it’s common to see herds crossing the river from north to south and back again within a few days. However, spotting a crossing can be quite challenging and often comes down to luck. Serengeti Central is renowned for its abundance of both big and small cats.

Day 6: Central Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater

You will take part in a sunrise game drive to see animals as they go out to hunt or return from their night hunt. You will return for breakfast and then check-out heading to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You will stop at the Olduvai Gorge where anthropologists Louis and Mary Leakey made significant discoveries, contributing to the theory that human life originated in Africa. You will arrive and descend into the crater for an afternoon game drive with a picnic lunch to enjoy inside the crater. This crater has a permanent population of more than 30,000 animals. As only very few of those migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft. high walls, you can expect to see lion, elephant, giraffe, zebra, hippo, flamingo, jackal, rhino, antelope, and a wide variety of birds and other species. The crater is home to the rare black rhino which is almost extinct in Tanzania.

Day 7 – Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast you will descend the crater for a game viewing with your picnic lunch boxes as to maximize your time on the game. Spend a full day into the crater, maximize chances of viewing more wildlife. This is an extensive highland area along the eastern arm of the Great Rift Valley, with the world-renowned Ngorongoro Crater as its focal point. It is not a national park in the strict sense of the word but was rather established to conserve wildlife and other natural resources. It exists to safeguard the interests of indigenous people as well as promote tourism. You will later go back to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8: Ngorongoro to Lake Manyara National Park

You will be picked from your hotel in Ngorongoro and depart for Lake Manyara National Park with a picnic lunch for a full day game drive. As you enter the national park, lush forests of Acacia and mahogany trees begin to set the mood for what is waiting ahead. The game drive will go on till evening with a small break for picnic lunch. During the game drive, watch out for buffaloes, giraffes, impalas, baboons, and the blue monkeys. Another spectacle of Lake Manyara National Park is the tree-climbing lions, however spotting them is a game of luck. In the right season, you can see the shoreline turning pink with millions of flamingos flocking there. Post the game drive, you will head back to your camp/lodge where a delicious dinner awaits you.

Day 9: Lake Manyara to Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, drive to Tarangire National park for game viewing and later drive to the lodge for evening leisure and overnight. Tarangire National Park is one of the largest national parks in Tanzania. Activities will include a wildlife game drive where you can see pythons climb trees as well as lions and leopard among others. For the bird lovers, keep an eye for the screeching flocks of colourful yellow-collared lovebirds, and the somewhat drabber rufous-tailed weaver and ashy starling. These are all endemic to the dry savannah of north central Tanzania.

Day 10: Tarangire National Park to Arusha to Airport

Today you will have to bid a fond farewell to Tanzania. After breakfast, you will have a morning game drive in Tarangire. Later, you will be driven back to Arusha and proceed to Kilimanjaro airport for your flight back home. See you again Tanzania!
